Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özcan Kaya

From medical education to clinical practice in spine surgery.

He completed his medical education at Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, qualifying as a medical doctor. He completed his specialist training at the same faculty and became a specialist in Orthopaedics and Traumatology.

During his specialist training, he was a visiting observer in spine surgery at Thomas Jefferson University and Rothman Orthopaedic Institute in the United States, attending patient assessments and operations as an observer.

His clinical work focuses primarily on spine surgery. He uses open and minimally invasive methods in the surgical treatment of scoliosis, Scheuermann kyphosis, lumbar and cervical disc herniations, spinal stenosis, spinal tumours and spinal fractures.

He also diagnoses and treats fractures in adults and children, as well as knee and hip problems that are more common in older patients. He performs limb-lengthening surgery using the lengthening-over-nail technique.

He continues his academic work in spine surgery, publishes scientific articles and contributes as a speaker at national and international congresses.

At the first elective general assembly of the TOTBİD Gölbaşı Spine Branch, established to support spine surgery training for orthopaedic and traumatology residents and young specialists, he was elected to its board and serves as general secretary.
